     Open the “mms.cfg” file using a text editor such as Notepad.
     Change the line that says “AutoUpdateDisable=0” to “AutoUpdateDisable=1“.
     Close and save the file. Adobe Flash should no longer prompt for updates.


**** :: Record MP3 from YouTube ::

     Use Audacity with LAME option and SoundFlower.kext

     Download Audacity, Soundflower (special audio plugin, free), and LAME MP3 Encoder (exports MP3).
     Open up Soundflower in /Applications/Soundflower/Soundflowerbed.
     Click the Soundflower icon in the menubar.
     Make sure under Soundflower (2ch) “Built-in Output” is selected.
     Open up the Sound preference pane in System Preferences.
     In both the Output and Input sections, select Soundflower (2ch).
     Open up Audacity, and go to Preferences.
     In the Devices section, set Soundflower (2ch) as the Recording Device and 2 (Stereo) as the Recording Channels.
     Leave “Built-in Output” as the Playback device.      In Audacity Preferences, go to the Libraries section.
     Click the Locate button next to MP3 Library.
     The location should be “/usr/local/lib/audacity/libmp3lame.dylib”. Click Browse, then click Open to load it.
     Click OK. You may need to quit and re-open Audacity for the MP3 library to work.
     Finally, the moment you’ve been waiting for…
     Go to YouTube and type in the name of the song you want. Select the music video for the song. (Use Safari - FF Nightly NBG)
     Click the record button in Audacity (red circle button) and start recording the song from the YouTube music video.
     When the song is over, click the stop button (yellow square button) in Audacity.
     Go to File > Export.
     Type in the song information (title, year, genre, artist). Click OK.
     In the Save As window, type in the song title as the filename. Change the Format to MP3 Files.
     Click Options if you want to adjust the MP3 settings. Then click Save.
     Import the song file into your iTunes library.
     Done.


**** :: CHM files on iPad ::

     Use Abee eBook Creator on XP VM
     Use CHM+ on iPad to view


**** :: Record MP4 from screen ::

     Use ScreenFlick to capture screen/part of screen then export to MP4.
     Use red record button, set area then press record - there will be a countdown before record starts to allow triggering of video, etc.
     To edit/crop use MP4Tools to extract desired portion of movie - use QuickTime to play MP4 and this will show timing.


**** :: Use split with Excel ::

     Use Split first then adjust to desired position then freeze panes.
     This will change the thick bars to thin ones.


**** :: Create PNG from ICNS with Preview ::

     Open .icns with Preview.
     Export as .png - result will be a animated png, cycling through the .icns frames
     Drag required size frame outside Preview as a .tiff
     Use Pixelmator to convert tiff to png - result static png.


**** :: Record DVD with Handbrake ::

     Use 1080p30
     Select VIDEO_TS folder and highlight biggest section of video eg: VTS_01_0.VOB
     -DVD will spend a bit of time syncing
     Update Destination and largely use defaults (use mp4/m4v)

     TIP: Select VIDEO_TS folder and OPEN (let HB do the scan and pick up longest track)


**** :: Add poster art to MP4 ::

     Use Pixelmator to 'square off' poster with canvas sizing eg: 443 x 300 --> 443 x 443
     Export as .png to preserve background transparency
     Open .png in Preview then cmd-A, cmd-C
     Use Preview to do Get Info on MP4 and highlight icon then cmd-V

     note: just dragging poster art to the icon field will not work


**** :: Convert MKV to MP4 ::

     Use Avidemux - drag .mkv to app and save as mp4
     Settings:
          Video Decoder - Lavcodec QtGl
          Video Output - Copy
          Audio Output - AAC (lav) - Filters, Manual 6dB
          Output Format - MP4 Muxer

     Using SmartConverter gave low volume but Avidemux allows volume adjust


**** :: Add existing application to LaunchPad ::

     Copy app to Desktop and delete from Applications folder.
     Drag .app over Launchpad in Dock (this will register app with Launchpad)
     Drag .app back to Applications folder (this will re-register the Launchpad entry to the installed app) - if this does not work check the CFBundleIdentifier of the apps Info.plist file for duplications


**** :: Add subtitles to movies ::

     Use .srt file next to movie file - needs to be the same name for subtitles to be available in menu.


**** :: Create imagemap using GIMP ::

     Open Filters > Web > ImageMap (takes a wee while for new window to open)
     Select Mapping when window opens and use CSIM (ensures HTML will be saved in output file) - also specify image src name.
     Use File > Open (the image file)
     Select appropriate shape from side menu and use to select area - on final selection click an area settings window will open.
     Specify URL links, etc
     Use Save As to save file as whatever.html
